Project Spotlight

Johnstown Multifamily

Scope of Work

This multifamily building has an 800 yd3 slab on grade, using concrete made with the new Type 1L cement. One of the challenges with this cement is its tendency to develop early-age plastic shrinkage cracks. To mitigate this, several best practices for moisture retention were implemented, along with the use of FiberForce 150 at 1 lb/yd in the concrete. This helped to delay the initial set, allowing the finishing operations to be completed before plastic shrinkage cracks could form.

Raptor Materials communicated with the contractor, explaining the benefits of using FiberForce 150 for this application. The contractor and developer agreed that the minimal added cost was worthwhile to potentially reduce unwanted cracking. Weeks after the slab was placed, there were still no unexpected cracks visible!
